HOW THIS WORKS
1. Initial Call
You reach out, and we talk.
I’ll get a sense of what you want your video will do for you, which is typically one of these:
- Warmly welcome the visitor
- Attract more general inquiries
- Attract better-fitting clients
- Share a helpful idea or approach (Instructive)
If you have something else in mind, we’ll shape it together.
We’ll also talk about your professional style and the kind of client you most want to reach, so the video is aligned with who you are.
2. We schedule & prepare
If it feels like a good fit, we’ll discuss the style of video that you feel will work best for you:
* Interview, where I ask questions and you answer them.
* Solo, where you speak directly to camera. (I can set you up with a Teleprompter if desired.)
* Still Photo of you with audio track of you speaking; and
* Digital Twin, similar to the Still Photo approach, but using a brief, master video of you and separate audio track to create a finished video.
We’ll schedule your Preparation Session and you’ll receive an email to help you prepare. (These steps eliminate stress from the Recording Session: good prep = good results!)
The email includes:
- Instructions for installing the recording app on your smartphone
- Links to two Amazon products, one of which you’ll likely need: a simple tripod, or a desktop light stand with a soft-light and phone holder.
- A short intake form
- A brief overview of what to expect in the Preparation Session, so there are no surprises
We’ll schedule a quick 5-minute video call using Doxy.me so that I can see the space we have to work with at your end. You don’t need to install anything. I will send you a link in a text or email, and you simply click on it-easier than a Zoom call!)
For best results, an iPhone or Android made within the past 6 years works best, and using one allows for better sound and image quality, lighting, and camera placement.
In a pinch, we can use your computer’s webcam. While convenient and perfectly fine for Zoom calls, webcams generally won’t produce the level of quality that best represents you on your website.
3. Preparation Session
This is a working session to prepare for the recording, not a performance.
We connect using the same software used for the recording. (It is similar to Zoom, but much higher quality.) .
Then we do a light rehearsal. Ideally, for Solo Style, you’ll have practiced your talk at home several times to refine and smooth your talk. If desired, I can set you up with a teleprompter that scrolls your script as you read it. (All professional newscasters use these.)
If the recording is going to be Interview Style, we’ll practice with me asking questions that you’ve provide me with. (And, yes, I’ll make suggestions beforehand as to what questions are good to ask.)
You’re not expected to get it right—you’re simply speaking in your natural voice, and if needed, I’ll gently guide you with feedback on volume and rhythm. Having an outline of what you want to say can be helpful.
By the end of this session, we’ll know whether we’re ready to schedule the Recording Session, or if you need some at-home practice or additional coaching first.
These sessions run about 45 minutes.
4. Recording Session
On the day of your session, we begin with a short warm-up so you feel settled and natural on camera.
Then we move into recording.
I’ll guide you as needed, and we take breaks and re-takes as part of the process.
Most sessions run about 60 minutes. Nothing is rushed.
4. Review + refine
I’ll edit the video and upload it to a private link for you to review, typically within two weeks.
You can request changes, and I’ll take care of the final adjustments.
Once everything looks right, you’ll receive the finished version ready for your website and social channels.
A Welcome video is 30 – 60 seconds long. A more detailed video (your specialty, how you help, etc.) is typically 3–5 minutes long—long enough to be informative, while still holding your viewer’s attention.
5. Use your video
Your web person can easily embed the video on your site.
If needed, I’m happy to help with that as well.
